5 Tips To Get (and Stay) Calm & Grounded

  1. We've all been there - you open your eyes, grab your phone, open your mail app and before you know it your nervous system is on fire. Experiment with taking a few minutes to stretch, breathe or at the very least, brush your teeth before diving into emails, texts, and social media.

  2. Friends, we are all dehydrated when we wake up and this can lead to feeling groggy. Try to finish one cup of water before your coffee.

  3. Eat something with protein, complex carbs and healthy fats within 1 hour of waking. This will stabilize your blood sugar which can help decrease anxiety. Continue to feed yourself every 3-4 hours and remember to drink water.

  4. I know the 3 pm coffee is tempting but what your body likely needs is a glass of water, a snack and a break from screens/people. Take 10 minutes outside (preferably without your phone) and just sit. You might close your eyes and take some breaths or just watch the leaves on the trees. Bring a glass of water back to your desk and a snack.

  5. If available to you, try to go to bed around the same time every night. Our bodies love consistency - it builds safety on a nervous system level.
